Social Media: Where to begin?

Social media is not to be ignored, especially now. If you own a business, social media is your best friend. Like all friends, you get the good and the ugly with it, but social media is here and not going anywhere. So let’s talk about social media, why it’s important and how it can help your business.

What should your goals be with social media

The first question you should ask yourself is who do you want to be? Your brand to be? What are you hoping to accomplish using social media? Are you trying to obtain followers to learn about your product or services? Increase sales? Use your social media platforms to share discounts codes or promotions? Ultimately, it is important to know what your goals are so when you start to create content, that content is based around those goals.

You can have more than one goal with your social media campaigns but make sure that they are clearly defined. We suggest that when you are first starting out that you start by educating your audience with who you are and what you offer. Be clear. Also, a little Mercova Media plug, we not only provide social media marketing services but we consult businesses as well as how to build a brand and hit objectives on social media, so feel free to contact us for a free consultation with one of our team members —– click here to setup a call.

What social media platforms should you be using for your business?

We have clients every day ask us what platform should they be on? Or they want to be on all of them, which isn’t always necessary and can cost a lot of time and money. If you work with Mercova Media we will do market research of your industry to see what is working and what isn’t, what you are currently doing and tailor a social media strategy that works for your business. However, if you are working on your own social media strategy, do the research. Where are your targeted audiences hanging out these days? Where can you find your competitors?

Segmenting content creation – stay organized

Once you know what you want to accomplish, now you need to come up with a strategy to deliver your message. To do so, it’s good to figure out what you plan to say in your content and deliver it. Take each goal, and figure a strategy around it such as: branding, product information, service information, company culture, engagement with audience, or more. Other categories could be sharing the latest news in your industry, announcing events, or company successes.

Making time to create social media content

Allocating time to create appealing content that will incite engagement is work but can be worth it. So schedule time in your day or week to create the content. Don’t forget however that you have to make time to engage as well with your audience. Listen to feedback, respond to messages and DMs, and just treat it like a conversation.

Each platform works a little differently so research what works best with each platform and apply that knowledge to a process when allocating time dedicated to your social media. This leads to our next segment.

Create realistic goals to build your social media presence

We get clients all the time that set the bar too high for themselves and for us. Being unrealistic isn’t going to get you to your result faster. We find that clients that do this tend to become disappointed then stop building a presence all together. When working with Mercova Media, we try to set realistic expectations with our clients and prepare them for the long journey that is ahead. Depending on your service or product, it can take 90-120 days to see growth in followers, much less engagement. Some services like wellness and fitness tend to grow a lot faster than something like engineering pure air products. Also, set different goals for different platforms. Each platform is unique with how it connects with the audience.
